A Powerful Spiritual Tool for Nurturing Yourself with Love and Comfort

Sunday, May 12, is Mother’s Day here in the U.S. Our relationships with our mothers and mother-figures are all across the spectrum. I consider myself the most fortunate daughter in the world, as my mom and I have a deep, rich bond that only continues to strengthen. But maybe you didn’t receive the deep, immersing mother-love that you deserved. Maybe you didn’t have a mother or mother-figure to love you, or maybe your relationship with your mother is strained or nonexistent. Maybe your mother has transitioned from this life. Whatever your situation, I dedicate this post and this spiritual tool to you, and I hope it brings you love, comfort and serenity.

The following exercise can help you to:

  • Gain comfort, inner peace and love.
  • Nurture yourself in times of stress, fear or sadness.
  • Release your burdens, fears and uncertainties.
  • Create a few sacred moments of tranquility, just for you.

To begin, find yourself in a comfortable position. You may wish to dim the lights, light candles or incense, play soft music, or cover yourself with a lite blanket. Create a space of peace and calm for yourself, and be sure you won’t be disturbed for at least fifteen minutes.

Sit or lie comfortably. Begin taking slow, deep breaths. Ask the God(s) of your understanding to assist you in relaxing, opening to this experience, and finding peace. With each inhalation, breathe in peace, love, tranquility, serenity and comfort. With each exhale, release any stress, anxiety, fear, sadness or tension.

At this point, if prayer is a spiritual tool which resonates with you, tell Spirit what is in your heart and mind. Allow Spirit to assist you in finding peace. Allow your body to slowly relax and release. Take your time.

When you are feeling peaceful and centered, feel, sense or know the feeling of tender, gentle arms surrounding you. Allow these arms to shelter, protect and soothe your cares. If tears come, let them flow. Just rest gently in these loving arms. You are not being judged, rejected or ridiculed. You are being deeply, completely loved and nurtured as you rest in these arms.

When you are ready, allow the arms to gently begin to rock you. Feel the gentle soothing motion, and if you can’t feel it, just rest in the love. You are being held close to the heart of Divine mother-love. You are valuable. You are important. You are loved.

Allow your eyes to close, if they aren’t closed already. Rest in this moment. You may fall asleep, and that’s okay. Let go. Rest in love. Be here are long as you’d like. Know that you can return to this exercise any time you desire.

When you are ready, express gratitude to Spirit. Acknowledge your emotions. Slowly, gently begin to stretch your body, wiggle your fingers and toes, and return to your day.
